It's recipes like these that first struck my interest in homemade toiletry making. It's a wonderful feeling to have control of what you put on your skin. To know every ingredient is fresh, just as nature intended. Most ingredients are already in your kitchen or can easily be purchased at your local grocery store. For those harder to find ingredients, check your local health food store.

A wonderful way to spend a rainy weekend, make several recipes at once and have plenty of goodies on hand for the next several weeks. You can also chart your progess using natural home made beauty products versus store bought, does your skin look better? do you have more money left? Was it more fun? Just expermint and treat yourself, YOU are worth it !

You will also find a spell or two, as a 'kitchen' witch I believe a little 'Glamour' magic can make you feel beautiful as well !

Morning Dew Spell

The dew in May has always been the Witch's beauty secret. An old Cornish proverb associated with the May solar festival of Beltane says: 'The fair maid who, on the first of May, goes to the fields at break of day, and bathes in dew from the hawthorn tree, will ever strong and handsome be.'

On a Thursday evening during a waxing Moon, take a small bowl outdoors and place on the grass. Anoint the rim with vanilla or ginseng and make a statement of your desire to enhance your looks.

On Friday morning "Venus day", the planet ruling personal appearance, use your hands to bathe your face in the collected dew. Bathe other visible parts of your body with any remaining water. Be sure to visualize clearly the outcome you desire as often as you can from the time you first touch the bowl until the spell is done.

Eye Care

The best overall eye tonic is eyebright (an herb). Make a tea of it and either use the teabags or soak cotton balls or soft gauze in the tea and apply to eyes as a compress while lying down.(cooled of course)

For puffy and swollen eyes, make a wet compress of 4 Tbsp. freshly grated raw potato. Place on the eyes for about 15 minutes, then rinse with cold water.

To reduce swelling and for bags under the eyes, brew a cup of strong rosehip tea. Soak 2 cotton balls in the tea or use 2 tea bags, lie down and place over the eyes.

For dark cirles, cut a fresh fig in half, place a half over each eye.

To soothe tired, irritated eyes, cut the end of a cumber into 1/4 in thick slices. Apply a cool slice to each eye.

Raw potato slices laid on sore eyes reduces heat and redness.

For eye puffiness, any tea bag (herbal is better, especially eyebright), slightly cooled, placed on the eyes while you rest.

For tired or bloodshot eyes, soak sterile cotton balls or soft cloth in cold skim milk. Place over eyes for 10 minutes. Rinse entire face in warm, then cool, water.

To lighten dark circles under your eyes, wrap a grated raw potato in cheesecloth and apply to eyelids for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water.
